12 tourists from Rattihalli safe in Nepal

Haveri: As many as 12 residents of Rattihalli who travelled to Nepal are safe and have sent videos from their location to their families, following severe floods in Nepal’s Rasuwa district and surrounding areas.Tourist Shivanagouda said the 12 were part of a 14-member group from Karnataka. After learning that flooding had occurred about 50 km from their location, they moved to a safer place and are now safe.The group comprises members of six families, including businessmen and contractors. They are currently about 50 km from Pokhara in central Nepal and are expected to reach Sonauli, the border town shortly.Flash floods along Nepal-Tibet border leave at least 290 Indians missing, 200 stranded They plan to stay there for two days before returning to Karnataka, he said.Helplines set upThe administrations of Uttara Kannada and Haveri districts have urged families to provide information if their relatives are stranded, missing or unreachable following the sudden floods in Nepal.Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner K Lakshmi Priya said families should immediately contact the district administration with details of citizens who are missing, stranded or currently out of contact.‘Provide information’The DC said the information will help authorities co-ordinate tracing, safety and necessary assistance.Haveri Deputy Commissioner Vijaymahantesh Danammanavar said a helpline has been opened for residents of the district stranded in Nepal.The Haveri District Disaster Management Centre is prepared to receive information and co-ordinate rescue efforts.
