Nine people were killed and many injured after a sleeper bus caught fire on the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, in the early hours of Thursday.The incident took place near the 33-km milestone under the Jewar Police Station area.According to PTI, the bus was headed to Bihar from Delhi. The report said the Gautam Buddh Nagar police PRO confirmed that nine people had perished in the blaze. Passengers described the scene inside the bus after the fire was noticed and smoke filled the vehicle. A passenger told ANI that he was asleep when someone woke him up and alerted him to the fire. He said the fire was in the front protion of the bus and there was smoke all around. He said he somehow managed to get down.CM extended condolencesChief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the incident and extended his condolences to the families of those who died in the fire.He directed officials to ensure proper treatment for the injured and to provide all possible assistance to the families of the deceased after communicating with them, according to an official statement.Adityanath also wished the injured a speedy recovery.(With agency inputs)
