New Delhi: The Centre on Friday appointed Mandeep K Bhandari as the chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), and said it was temporarily upgrading the post by appointing the additional secretary. Bhandari, an IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre from the 2001 batch, replaces Lokhande Prashant Sitaraman.The appointment was made by the Appointments Committee under the Department of Personnel and Training in a communication released on Friday, in which over 10 senior bureaucrats were appointed across several ministries. Nisarga Adhikary, who exposed CBSE OSM flaws, now named in US DoJ Hall of Fame for cybersecurity Bhandari, a medical graduate with an MBBS degree, has served in Jammu and Kashmir. He takes over from Sitaraman, who was an additional secretary in the Home Ministry before being appointed CBSE chairman in June amid the controversy over on-screen marking.The Centre had transferred then Chairman Rahul Singh, a 1996-batch IAS officer of the Bihar cadre, as he was the chief executive overseeing the Board’s functioning and administration.The Appointments Committee also appointed Ankita Mishra Bundela, another IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre from the 2001 batch, as Additional Secretary in the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education. It said that the committee was temporarily upgrading a vacant post of Joint Secretary in her appointment.
