The unending journey of consciousness

The unending journey of consciousness

None among the keen students of history can ignore Vedic literature, because many of the questions raised by its seers remain relevant and unanswered. For example, the seer of the Nāsadiya Sūkta asks, ‘Ko addhā veda ka iha pravocat?’ — who can say or know how life came into being? This question still stares us all in the face, whether we are scientists or seekers.Spirituality is the subtlest field of supreme knowledge. This knowledge is also known as tattva-gyana, or self-realisation.Vedic hymns are arguably the most ancient documented queries to have appeared in human consciousness. Therefore, maintaining the sequence will do good to humanity. When seekers approach their own cognitive potential in a disciplined manner, this order becomes increasingly clear to them. This order passes through the fields of intellect, intelligence and prudence, ending in the field of wisdom. This is the trajectory of the journey of consciousness in the human frame. All of us, true seekers, can complete this journey here, and now while we are in human form. One can approach one’s supreme potential in a disciplined manner only by choosing to become a disciple. This necessitates the presence of a guru. Without the guru, how can a disciple exist? ‘Becoming’ a guru is possible only when the craving to become a disciple is so intense that it moves reality to emanate in the role of guru through one or another human being. None ‘becomes’ the guru. The guru is omnipresent consciousness, which emanates through a human frame when the cry is intense.Like the relationship between mother and child, the relationship between guru and disciple is born together. But this is not the right order in which to cite the example. Likewise, it is incorrect to say that the guru is like the sky (dvandvātītaṃ gagana sādṛśam). It is the other way round in reality: the sky is akin to the guru, as it possesses one of the guru’s attributes of being all-encompassing. But there are other attributes of the guru that are beyond the reach of the time-space continuum. These can only be experienced during the transcendental journey. The point I am trying to make is that, with the help of reasoning, cognition, examples and so on, one can go only so far. Ultimately, it is trust in a tested and chosen relationship that does the needful. Otherwise, one remains caught in beliefs and imaginary concepts. Moreover, after some time, cognitive fatigue takes over, and one becomes vulnerable to cognitive hijack.
