Bengaluru: Chamarajpet police have arrested seven people in connection with a counterfeit currency racket and seized 4,337 fake Rs 500 notes, officials said on Thursday.The arrested — Murugeshan, Govindan, Lakshmana, Saravan, Satya, Krishna and Barkath — are from Tamil Nadu and Telangana.Acting on a tip-off, police raided an area near a petrol bunk off the Mysuru Road flyover down ramp on September 14 and arrested two men travelling in a car. They seized 3,000 counterfeit Rs 500 notes, two mobile phones and the car.During interrogation, the accused revealed they were printing and circulating fake currency with nine associates and provided information about them.Karnataka: Accused arrested in counterfeit currency case had not circulated fake notes, say policePolice arrested two suspects in Chennai on September 16 and three others in Ranga Reddy district, Telangana, two days later. They also seized six mobile phones from them.Between September 24 and 25, police recovered 1,337 counterfeit Rs 500 notes from a suspect’s house in Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu.They also seized equipment used to print fake currency, including a computer, laptop, laminator, colour printer, cutting machine, holograms and photocopy machine.The seized items are valued at Rs 21 lakh, police said. Efforts are on to trace four other suspects. The seven arrested have been remanded in judicial custody. Further investigation is under way.
