There is no legitimate way for a third party to manually override a CIBIL score,” a police officer said.Between December 2025 and July 10, 2026, Karan transferred Rs 13 lakh to Gautham, who claimed the money was towards processing charges, tax, security deposit and other expenses. The victim filed an online complaint on September 18, following which an FIR was registered. He told police that he delayed reporting the fraud as the suspect had promised to return the money.“We suspect there are more victims who have fallen for such scams online. It is safe to approach only legitimate channels when seeking loans or other financial assistance,” the officer said. The investigation is on.How to stay safe:- Approach only legitimate financial institutions- Never share personal or sensitive information- Raise any CIBIL score dispute directly with CIBIL- Report fraud to the police without delay to improve chances of recovery
