New Delhi: The Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRA) on Tuesday asked Karnataka to release 6,000 cusecs per day of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu for another 15 days. The order was issued at a meeting chaired by Vineet Gupta. The committee reviewed the rainfall and crop position in the Cauvery basin and instructed Karnataka to ensure release from its reservoirs so that flow of 6,000 cusecs are realised at Biligundulu starting at 8 am on September 9, 2026, and continue for the next 15 days. The Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) had on August 25 directed Karnataka to maintain 9,000 cusecs from that date until September 8, endorsing a Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) decision of August 24.However, Karnataka on September 4 appealed before the Cauvery Water Management Authority requesting it to reduce release from 9,000 to 2,000 cusecs.
