Bengaluru: The state government is likely to revise government school timings in Bengaluru soon.Following teachers’ request, School Education and Literacy Minister Madhu Bangarappa on Saturday said he will discuss the issue with the other departments concerned.Bengaluru: Varthur residents flag roads, flooding, transport woes“Teachers, who are reaching schools late due to traffic, have submitted a request to change the timings. I will discuss it with other departments and take a decision,” said Madhu Bangarappa.Currently, government schools in Bengaluru function between 10.30 am and 4.30 pm. However, private schools work between 8.45 am and 3.45 pm. “To reach school at 10.30 am, many of us have to leave at least one and a half an hours early. Despite this, we are spending at least an hour in traffic,” said a teacher.“The current timings are also affecting classes as we spend at least an hour distributing milk, eggs and midday meals. The ideal timings in Bengaluru would be 8.30 am to 3.30 pm as even students can reach home before the regular traffic begins,” said another teacher.Meanwhile, Madhu Bangarappa said the state government is planning to consider even private unaided school teachers for the State Best Teachers award.Bengaluru lakes adrift in civic shuffle as agencies trade responsibility“There is a demand from private schools to consider their staff for the Best Teacher awards. We are discussing it at the government level. A decision will be taken soon,” he said.
