Mangaluru: As directed during the second quarterly KDP meeting chaired by Health Minister UT Khader, Dakshina Kannada District Food Safety Designated Officer Dr. Praveen Kumar CH inspected the Mangaluru Taluk and Urban Mahila Supplementary Production and Training Center (MSPC) operating within the Moodushedde Gram Panchayat limits.During the inspection, officials examined the preparation of supplementary nutritional food products, including Pushti and millet laddu mix, which are supplied to children at Anganwadi centres.The inspection was conducted with the objective of ensuring that supplementary nutritional food provided to Anganwadi children is prepared safely, hygienically and in accordance with prescribed quality standards. Dr. Kumar provided authorities with detailed information on rules and regulations that must be followed under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.Lokayukta conducts surprise inspections at 7 GPs in Dakshina KannadaSamples of Pushti, millet laddu powder and sambar powder supplied as supplementary nutritional food to children were collected and sent to a food laboratory for testing. Further legal action will be taken based on the laboratory report.The authorities were also instructed to take steps to introduce machinery for the packing of food products at the centre. A letter will be sent to the Deputy Director of the Women and Child Development Department regarding further action in this regard.Officials further instructed the centre to use good-quality, food-grade plastic for packaging. They were also directed to ensure that essential labelling details, including the date of manufacture, expiry date and batch number, are clearly printed using appropriate equipment in accordance with food safety regulations.
