
Senior citizen’s land restored after fake deed fraud; two arrested
Bengaluru: The Lokayukta has intervened in a case involving the alleged fraudulent transfer of an 84-year-old woman’s land in Devanahalli taluk, leading to the arrest of two people, filing of a chargesheet and restoration of her name in revenue records.Lokayukta officials said the land belonging to Bharathi L Reddy of Chikkatattamangala village in Vijayapura hobli comprises three acres in Survey No 95/1, one acre and 25 guntas in Survey No 94/1, and one acre and eight guntas in Survey No 92/2.A fake gift deed was registered at the Hoskote Sub-Registrar’s Office on August 13, 2025, by impersonating Bharathi. The properties were subsequently transferred in the name of her son, Shravan Kumar. The investigating officer informed the Lokayukta that the investigation was complete and a chargesheet had been filed before the court.Meanwhile, the Doddaballapur sub-divisional officer, through an order dated August 12 this year, directed the restoration of Bharathi’s name in the revenue records after the fraudulent deed led to its removal. Her name has since been restored as the owner.Taking serious note of similar cases involving the fraudulent takeover of senior citizens’ properties, the Lokayukta directed the Inspector General of Registration and the Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department to submit a report on preventive and punitive measures to curb such frauds.
