New Delhi: At least five lakh workers of CPI will court arrest between December 1 and 3 as part of the Left party’s ‘Jail Bharo Aandolan’ (fill the jails agitation) against Modi government’s “anti-people” policies affecting various sections of the society, including youth, students, women and farmers. The December agitation is part of its ‘Badlaav Zaroori Hai’ (Change is Inevitable) programme started in August with country-wide ‘padayatras’ and a rally at Ramlila Maidan here on September 1. CPI(ML)L pushes for Opposition unity over SIR in attempt to ride on ‘Gen Z anger’The decision to hold the December agitation was taken at a meeting of the CPI National Council held here earlier this month. The National Council has said the ‘Badlaav Zaroori Hai’ slogan has emerged as a “political expression of collective frustration and people’s desire for meaningful and positive change”.CPI General Secretary D Raja said the ‘Jail Bharo Aandolan’ comes against the backdrop of “unprecedented economic, social and political challenges “confronting” the country under the Modi government. “We have set a target of mobilising at least five lakh comrades to court arrest against the disastrous policies of this government,” he said. CPI(ML) Liberation to launch campaign for education reform on September 6Prior to the ‘Jail Bharo Aandolan’, the party will observe October 2 the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’, as ‘Communal Harmony Day’, highlighting the “urgent need to defend” India’s social fabric in the face of “growing communal polarisation and social division under the BJP-RSS rule”.“There is an increasing recognition among people that the RSS-controlled Modi government has failed on virtually every major front, from economy and national security to education, healthcare and employment generation, as well as social security and control over prices,” Raja said.
