Patna: Amid nationwide outrage over the viral video which showed a young girl being groped, harassed and his boy friend assaulted, the Bihar police on Tuesday arrested the main accused Nandan Yadav and his accomplice Hareram.Nandan sustained bullet injury in his leg while trying to flee when the police apprehended him from Madwa Hills, the picturesque place where he was hiding after assaulting the young boy and the girl who had gone there for a photo-shoot on Saturday.Jamui harassment horror: Two arrested after police encounter; total five nabbedConfirming this, ADG (Law and Order), K Suhita Anupam said, “Nandan was trying to flee after seeing the police team which raided the place to nab him. In the process, he sustained a bullet injury in his leg.”The other accused Hareram too fractured his leg while running away from the police. Both Nandan and Hariram were admitted to the Jamui Sadar Hospital.Altogether eight persons have been arrested so far in the horrifying incident in Jamui which brought disrepute to Bihar. However, one of the senior ministers Shrawan Kumar faced online backlash after he termed the molestation episode as “a sporadic incident which keeps happening in Bihar as the world is not free from crime.”The Bihar JD (U) president Umesh Kushwaha too had said yesterday that “such ‘chitput ghatna’ (minor incidents) do happen in the State but the culprits are booked in no time.” On Tuesday, he expressed regret over the choice of words (minor incidents) and said it was a slip of tongue.Jamui harassment horror: NCW takes suo motu cognisance, writes to Bihar police for FIR, speedy actionTejashwi asks Samrat to quitMeanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, on Tuesday demanded Samrat Choudhary to resign from his post. He quoted Samrat’s assertion in recent days where the Chief Minister was heard boasting: “In Bihar, you take a late night drive after 12 in the midnight. If anyone touches you, Samrat will resign the next morning.”“Samrat should resign and leave Bihar forever. Besides, the main accused in the case, irrespective of any caste or affiliations, should be hanged,” said Tejashwi at a Press conference here on Tuesday.In the meantime, ADG (Law and Order) K Suhita Anupam has warned all those who have been posting the video on social media to desist from doing so, as they may be booked under POCSO Act as it’s a punishable offence to reveal the face or identity of the victim.
