Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Backward Castes Federation on Tuesday announced that a conference would be organised on September 6 to urge the government to implement the socio-educational survey report of the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes (KSCBC) in its original form. Just before stepping down as chief minister, Siddaramaiah received the report from KSCBC chairman Madhusudan R Naik and other members on May 27.However, the government is yet to discuss the report in the Cabinet.Backward class, Dalit and minority organisations are in favour of the report and want its findings to be publicised. Alarmed over Nepal flash floods, experts plan bathymetric survey in Arunachal Pradesh’s vulnerable Khangri glaciersThe conference also seeks to press for representation of the backward classes in boards and corporations. It will include a congratulatory programme for Siddaramaiah. "A congratulatory programme has been organised for former chief minister Siddaramaiah, who significantly contributed to the socio-educational development of the backward classes," a press note by the federation read.Siddaramaiah is considered one of the foremost leaders of the Ahinda (Kannada acronym for minorities, backward classes and SC, STs) bloc.After resigning as chief minister, Siddaramaiah was expected to organise the Ahinda front again. There were speculations that the September 6 convention might serve as a platform for mobilising the Ahinda group. However, the federation’s general secretary Yennegere R Venkataramaiah clarified to DH that the event was not an Ahinda programme.He said the event was for backward castes under category 1 and 2A of the OBC list.The federation has urged all ministers, MLAs and MLCs from backward classes to participate in the programme.
