SIR: Disposal of claims, objections ends today

Bengaluru: The phase of issuing notices and disposal of claims and objections under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise will end on Thursday.The claims and objections phase began on August 24, when the draft electoral list was published.Farmer, Dalit groups to hold anti-SIR protests across Karnataka on October 23I.N.D.I.A. bloc in Karnataka to join SIR protest in Delhi on November 1As of October 16, 10.07 lakh people had sought inclusion in the voter roll through Form-6 applications, 1.22 lakh applications were made under Form-7 to exclude voters, while 12.79 lakh voters had sought change of address through Form-8 applications.Sources in the Chief Electoral Officer-Karnataka’s office noted that all applications seeking inclusion in the roll had not been considered. “If the applicants could not be found during spot visits, such applications have been left out.”Sources explained that cases where concerned voters and their family members had sought exclusion from the voters’ list through Form-7 had been examined and disposed of.Erroneous applicationsHowever, they noted that in cases of mass filing, erroneous applications were rejected.Data on the number of applications accepted and rejected has not yet been disclosed.Karnataka SIR | 19,365 notices pending verification, says poll panel chief‘Forms for corrections’“Lakhs of people in the Absent, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate and Others (ASDDO) list who were not part of the draft list, have submitted forms for corrections.
