Gundlupet, Chamarajanagar district: The Forest department has imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the Keralam-based lorry driver, who tried to hit a wild jumbo that had strayed on the Gundlupet-Ooty road, under Bandipur Tiger Reserve limits. It has also obtained an undertaking from him.A wild jumbo came across his vehicle when he was driving his lorry on Gundlupet-Ooty road. Even after noting the wild animal, he drove the lorry in a dangerous way, trying to hit the elephant. The video was captured in the dash camera of a car that was on the road, and was widely circulated on social media platforms. The netizens and wildlife lovers demanded action against the driver.The Forest department took action and Bandipur Range Forest Officer Mohan Kumar traced the lorry driver. He was summoned to the Bandipur Forest department office. After inquiring about the incident, the department imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 and also took an undertaking from him that he will not involve himself in such acts that would pose threat to the wild animals.
