Mangaluru: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH has cautioned people seeking employment abroad against falling prey to fake agents who promise jobs and visas in foreign countries. In a video message posted on the social media handle of the city police, the Commissioner said many people aspiring to work abroad and earn better incomes are being cheated after paying large sums of money to fraudulent agents. He advised those planning to work abroad to approach only recruiting agents registered with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). “There are around 25 to 30 registered recruiting agents. People should approach only agencies registered with the MEA and verify their credentials before paying any money,” he said.Cybercrime FIRs could jump 5–6 times in Karnataka. Here’s whyThe Commissioner said people often approach the police only after losing their money, by which time it becomes difficult to recover the amount even after registering a case and arresting the accused. He urged job seekers to exercise caution and verify the credentials of recruiting agencies before entering into any agreement or making payments. People seeking employment abroad can check the list of MEA-registered recruiting agents on the official portal at emigrate.gov.in, he said.
