Meeting on sugarcane growers’ demands on Oct 26: Jarkiholi

Dharwad: Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi said the government will respond positively to the legitimate demands of sugarcane growers, and a meeting, chaired by Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, will be held in Belagavi on October 26 to take a final decision on their demands.Speaking to reporters in the city on Wednesday, Jarkiholi said the government is neither in favour of nor opposed to any particular side, but would support farmers if their agitation is justified. “Our chief minister also shares this view. The government has extended its support to the farming community and appropriate measures have been taken to ensure that the protesting farmers face no inconvenience from either the government or the police,” he said.Belagavi farmers pour out their woes before Minister Satish Jarkiholi, seeking assistance On the alleged sting operation, Jarkiholi cautioned ministers and legislators to remain vigilant, alleging that a systematic attempt is being made to trap the elected representatives using hidden cameras fitted in watches, spectacles and rings. “Certain individuals and agencies are targeting politicians to trap them. The chief minister himself has advised his Cabinet colleagues to be cautious,” he said.“It is impossible to determine who among those who come to meet us may be involved in such operations,” he added.
