Bengaluru: Tech major Oracle has begun a fresh round of global layoffs, with over 1,000 roles expected to be impacted in India. The move comes months after the company laid off nearly 12,000 employees in India in April.DH had recently reported that a new wave of layoffs was likely in mid-September. Known for sending layoff emails at 6 am, the company this time too triggered anxiety among staff waiting for early-morning emails.Though Oracle has not officially disclosed the number of roles affected globally or in India, several employees said on Reddit and other platforms that they received emails as early as 5 am on Monday. According to internal estimates, globally over 6,000 jobs would be cut, and in India it could go up to 2,000, impacting product engineering and consulting teams. The only way I know is that I can no longer access any of my corporate resources. Apparently, I don’t even get the courtesy of an email.”Employees who received the communication said Oracle told them their role had been eliminated as part of a broader organisational change. “As a result, today is your last working day,” the email read.According to Layoffs.fyi, which tracks tech and startup layoffs,128,873 tech employees have been laid off across 303 tech companies so far this year.The company had reduced its workforce by over 20,000 in May, taking its total headcount to 141,000 globally. The company’s total capital expenditure in Q1FY27 stood at $28 billion.The fresh cuts come as Oracle ramps up investments in data centres and AI infrastructure. Last year, the company announced plans to invest $5 billion over the next five years in the UK to meet growing demand for its cloud services.In its recent earnings, Oracle reported quarterly revenue of $19.3 billion, up 30%, driven by an additional 850 MW of data centre capacity. Cloud revenues (IaaS + SaaS) rose 62% to $11.6 billion, led by 121% growth in Cloud Infrastructure (IaaS) and 10% growth in Cloud Applications (SaaS).
