Thiruvananthapuram: Days after a speeding Mini Cooper driven by a youth claimed the lives of three youngsters, including two women, in Kochi, Keralam is witnessing communal, moral and political rows over it.In a latest move, Congress woman MLA and deputy speaker in Kerala Assembly Shanimol Osman has filed a police complaint against ‘baseless allegations’ that she was trying to help the accused.Keralam CM comes to aid of road-accident victim, sends injured man to hospital in pilot vehicleK P Sasikala, leader of Sangh Parivar outfit Hindu Aikya Vedi, has been inviting strong criticism even from the family of a victim girl for a communally and morally toned remark over girls going out for tea with boys during late hours. The opposition CPI(M) had raised allegations of lapses in police actions, especially the missing of the accused’s name in the first information report (FIR).The Mini Cooper driven by 19-year-old Suhail Sajeev at over 120 kmph speed during the wee hours of October 11 rammed into a scooter in which the victims Devika from Wayanad, Gopika from Palakkad and Iyaz from Coorg in Karnataka were riding.Remarks of Sajeev, who was found to be in a drunken state, that his father would deal with the case, triggered the initial row. Since then, his entrepreneur couple parents, especially his mother who was said to have gifted the luxury car to him, have been coming under attack on social media. The missing of the driver’s name in FIR and court directive to shift the 19-year-old accused to a borstal school aggravated allegation of sabotaging the case. Amidst it, Sasikala’s social media post triggered the communal and moral campaign. The family of Gopika had strongly flayed Sasikala’s social media post, even as Sasikala maintained that the post was being wrongly interpreted. She had also stated she would file a defamation case against the family. A CPI leader had filed a police petition accusing Sasikala of insulting the family of the deceased. Meanwhile, Shanimol filed a police petition against the allegation by a DYFI activist that she was trying to sabotage the case by accepting favour from the family of the accused.Chief Minister V D Satheesan and home minister Ramesh Chennithala denied the allegations of attempting to sabotage the case. They also flayed the communal and moral rows over the incident. Suhail’s blood test had reportedly found more than five times the legal limit of alcohol content. Licenses of three bars were suspended for serving liquor to youths below the age of 23, which is the legal age for liquor consumption in Keralam.
