Bengaluru: Saptak Talwar and Veer Ahlawat, both of whom who will be representing India in men’s golf at the Asian Games, will be looking for a final tune-up before they fly out to Japan when they tee off in the Bengaluru Open starting Tuesday at the Karnataka Golf Association.Talwar is the Order of Merit leader following seven top-10 finishes in 13 events while Ahlawat is placed fourth after registering eight top-10 finishes — also in 13 starts. The par-72 KGA is generally regarded by most golfers as one of the toughest courses in the continent with its tight fairways, quick greens and strategically placed bunkers; so an outing here just before the continental bash is probably the best preparation for the duo. Men’s golf at Asiad is scheduled to start at Kasugai Country Club East Course from Sept 30.The spotlight though will be on KGA’s very own Khalin Joshi who has been in smashing form over the last couple of months. Khalin won the J&K Open in Srinagar by a whopping nine shots when the PGTI season resumed after a 3-1/2 month break in August. Khalin then roared to victory in the weather-hit Nav Raipur Open last week for this third win of the season – the most by golfers on the tour.Another golfer keen to rediscover his old touch at one of his happiest hunting grounds during his junior and amateur days is S Chikkarangappa. Once touted as the future of Indian golf, Chikkarangappa’s pro career hasn’t gone as per plans, and the 32-year-old has had a forgettable season so far, languishing in 46th place in OOM. A course that once was a second home to him could probably act as a springboard for a career resurrection.
