The Supreme Court on Monday cancelled the bail granted by Bombay High Court to Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre, accused of assaulting a doctor at a civic hospital in July. The court, while cancelling the bail granted to Mhatre, said, “Message should go loud and clear that medical fraternity cannot be touched.” The corporator was directed to surrender within three days. “The message should go out loud and clear that the medical fraternity cannot be touched. They serve people and cannot be attacked in this manner,” the apex court said. βThese people donβt deserve to roam on streetsβ: SC notice to Shiv Sena corporator over assault on doctors in ThaneThere was a similar incident involving the same party after the Mhatre episode, the apex court noted.The bench said the Mhatre incident also shows that he was involved in 19 criminal cases including the present matter.
