Following the withdrawal of the TMC candidate from Nandigram constituency for the Assembly bypoll, allegedly at the behest of the West Bengal CM, Mamata Banerjee announced her support to the Congress candidate Milan Pradhan. However, the Congress candidate was immediately arrested in connection with cases that were pending for about two decades. He has since been remanded in judicial custody till October 5, giving him no time to campaign for the October 6 voting. This decision reeks of vendetta. If no action had been taken for about two decades in respect of the criminal cases, the authorities could have waited at least till October 6.
